One Sport Medicine Fellow is expected to be on call every day/evening, including weekends. One fellow will be responsible for setting up the call schedule and forwarding it monthly by email to:
Theresa Outerbridge, Regina Handley and MASCO on Call.
Please e-mail a copy to Louise Borda as well.
While it is extremely rare that fellows need to come to the hospital when they are on call, most calls involved patients with post-operative questions. In addition, some of the teams occasionally need a player to be met/seen during off-hours times, and the on-call fellow will typically be asked to help facilitate the examination. The on-call resident in the emergency room will be the initial point of evaluations for sports medicine patients who come to the ER. The on-call fellow will be paged in the event that the patient is already under the care of one of the sports medicine staff.
Residents on the floor need to be notified if you admit patients on nights or weekends.
In addition, if a surgical patient is admitted and no resident was involved with the procedure, the applicable junior or senior resident on the service must be directly notified by phone/email.
The fellow should see every patient that they operate on in the hospital if they are admitted.
